Recognized for his collaboration with L. Frank Baum in the Oz books and for being the first artist invited to work at Roycroft Press, Denslow was largely self-trained and spent a period of time travelling by train as a newspaper reporter which influence can be seen in his whimsical and eye-catching illustrations.
